If you can have your dream job, what would it be? They say only 20% of us are doing something we LOVE for a living. I feel fortunate to say that I did hair for 15 years, and I truly loved it. Now as a photographer, I am just as passionate, if not more. I am blessed that I have found another dream job. But what if you could CHOOSE your talent? I thought about this after I took my cousin’s pictures this year. She has the most beautiful voice, and dreams of performing on Broadway one day. If I could choose a talent, that’s what I would choose. To sing…but to really sing…with soul. Like when you hear someone sing and their voice gives you chills. Then I would sing on a stage where I could play the part of Rupunzel, Ariel, Merida, or Moana….(It makes me laugh that I just named all Disney characters that my daughter and I love.) I saw the Lion King at the theater a few years ago and it made me want to quit my job as a hairstylist and be one of the characters on stage. I guess for now, my singing will have to remain in the car or the shower.
This is my cousin, Sinai…She has that voice…that voice that gives you goosebumps. She sang a song from the movie Moana at Easter and she gave me chills. She is brave and will sing in front of anyone. Look for her on a Broadway stage one day because she isn’t just dreaming it…she is taking the steps to get there.
“Decide what it is you want.
Write it down.
Make a plan.
Work on it.
If you need some inspiration, “Big Magic” is a must read. Elizabeth Gilbert has a way with words. Words that kick you in the butt and make you want to put yourself out there…What talent do you dream of having?
